Record Broken!

Bravo Cavan GAA! An amazing 1,986 local followers took part last Saturday in the 12-hour world continuous 100m relay record attempt on the back pitch at Kingspan Breffni Park and smashed the previous mark in style.

From 9am they came in their droves, young and old alike, to participate in the groundbreaking event which raised, according to key organiser Enda Mulvaney, almost €25,000 for charity.

'We"re thrilled, we were just blown away by the reaction, we got an absolutely fantastic response from the clubs of the county,' he told The Anglo Celt.

'It really couldn"t have gone any better.'

Among the highlights of the day were the appearance of Olympian Catherina McKiernan and the Cavan senior football squad, who took a break from their preparations for this Saturday"s Ulster semi-final against Antrim to take part in the run.

The event was organised in conjucntion with a number of health-related stalls which proved hugely popular.

See next week"s Anglo Celt sports section for a picture gallery from the historic event.
