Carr's tenure nears end

Tommy Carr's reign as Cavan senior team manager looks to be almost certainly over following a meeting of the county executive last Wednesday night, writes Paul Fitzpatrick. It is believed that the committee, which is made up of around 20 officials including the county chairman, treasurer, secretary, PRO, various delegates and representatives from the underage boards, were unwilling to back Carr as manager for the 2010 season, with just one member expressing support for the manager, who has been in the job for just nine months. Speculation is rife within the county that a number of clubs are preparing to support a vote of no confidence in Carr at the scheduled county board meeting in the Hotel Kilmore on Monday night and it appears highly unlikely that the Tipperary native will hold on to the position. The executive committee are not expected to make a statement prior to Monday's meeting where the issue is set to be raised by clubs. "I would be of the opinion that by close of business Monday night, Tommy Carr will not be team manager," stated a source. Carr's tenure as manager saw Cavan win just four matches from ten in league and championship. Following an unexpected win over Fermanagh in the first round of the champuionship on June 6 in Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan exited the championship with one-sided defeats to Division Four sides Antrim and Wicklow. Meanwhile, minor manager Mickey Graham will meet with board officials this week. Cavan Gaels clubman Graham was originally appointed for two years, with an option of a third year, and it is thought that the job is his for another season at least should he wish to stay on.
