Farrell takes office on home ground

CAVAN will hold two key posts at Ulster Council level over the next three years following the unanimous election of Aogan Farrell (Drumgoon Eire Og GFC) as President and Oliver Galligan (Cavan Gaels) as PRO at the annual Ulster GAA Convention in the Errigal House Hotel, Cootehill on Saturday last. Farrell is the seventh Cavan man to hold the position since the establishment of the Provincial Council in 1903.

There were no contests for any of the officer positions in what turned out to be a low-key convention. Martin McAviney (Ballybay) moved from treasurer to vice-president and Michael Hasson (Antrim) switched from PRO to Treasurer. The elevation of Aogan Farrell to the top position on the Ulster Council was welcomed not only by the province as a whole but Cavan in particular. In attendance were members of his family, representatives from his club, as well as officers of Cavan Co Board in their splendid new outfits with the Breifne O'Raghallaigh crest prominently displayed on their jackets.

Among those present were former GAA President 91 year old Paddy McFlynn of Down; Cavan Co Manager Jack Keyes; Chairman of Cavan County Council Winston Bennett; Michael McCarey, Chairman, Cootehill Town Council; Cavan Co Board GAA Chairman Tom Reilly and Patrick Moynagh, Chairman, Drumgoon GFC.
