The Cavan county GAA board will be in a position to name their new minor manager early next week, The Anglo-Celt can reveal.

In all, six candidates are in the running for the position. Three were interviewed last Monday with another three set to be interviewed tonight (Wednesday) by a three-man interview panel comprising county board chairman Tom O’Reilly, minor board chairman Paddy Reilly and Ulster Council Coaching and Games Committee representative Tony Scullion. The six candidates are John Brady (Ramor United), Gary Donohoe (Gowna), Jim Hyland (Denn), James Lovett, Niall Lynch (Cuchulainns) and Dessie Reilly (Ballyhaise). “We met with members three of the candidates and we will be meeting three more,” confirmed Tom O’Reilly yesterday (Tuesday).

The delay in the process, which was originally expected to be concluded some weeks ago, was due to the insistence that all candidates would reveal the make-up of their proposed backroom teams so as to ensure neutrality in the selection of the interview panel.

Cavan haven’t won an Ulster MFC title since 1974. Despite a number of promising panels, they have failed to make the breakthrough in reaching a provincial decider under previous managers such as Mickey Graham, Donal Keogan, Jodie Clarke and Gerry Brady.
