Murray racks up 17th win on the trot

Profile by Paul Fitzpatrick

Andrew Murray enjoyed another good victory and stretched his unbeaten run to 17 fights with a hard fought 58-56 points decision over Ecuador's Alex Bone on Saturday night in the National Stadium.

The Cavan fighters quick return after the shoulder injury was a hard fought and very entertaining scrap and was the pick of a quality promotion before a full house.

The South American certainly came to fight and surprised Murray in the opening session with some good two fisted attacks but while his aggression was eye-catching, it was the Cavan boxer's better ring skill and clever counters that caught the eye.

These became more evident as the fight progressed and for all Bone's efforts, it was Murray's style and technique that controlled the middle rounds, much to the appreciation of the very pro-Murray crowd.

Both boys went toe to toe in the final session to conclude a very competitive affair and while the South American's roundhouse shots caught the eye, it was the Cavan man's shorter and more powerful punches that were doing the damage as he sealed yet another impressive victory.

Next up for Andrew is a mandatory defence of his EU title early in the New Year with the possibility of this taking place at a Cavan venue.
