County Track and Field honours go way of Shercock and Annalee again

The County Track and Field Season got under way in Shercock over the past two weekends, with the Under 14 to Under 18 Age Group Competitions held on the May Bank Holiday and the Senior and Masters Championships held last weekend. Fortunately the sun shone on both days with a good breeze, the type of day, one hopes for track and field, and all clubs made the most of the fine conditions. Annalee and Shercock Clubs dominated in numbers, but there were some striking results from a number of athletes from Bailieboro, Laragh and Innyvale clubs. The under 16s to Seniors competing for the Dr Quinn Cup was very closely contested for by Annalee and Shercock Clubs with Shercock retaining the cup by a slim 8 point margin. In the Masters competition Annalee proved strongest and retained the Cup for another year Annalee The first events of day one were the hurdles and again this season, many of the Annalee athletes were top of the class Ciara Murray was a triple gold medallist with wins in the under 16 80m Hurdles, 300m and long jump. Denis Frimpong continued the triple success with golds in the U18m hurdles, long jump and high jump. Orla Murphy won two golds in the U16 SP and HJ as well as silver in the U16 80m hurdles. Aoife Murphy won the U17 high jump and long jump and took the silver medal in the 100m hurdles. Eadaoin O'Reilly won the U18 1500m leading the race from the start and also won the shot putt and took third in the 300m. Lauren Sexton won the U17 hurdles and took silvers in the HJ and 100m sprint.  Louis Courtney was a good winner of the U16 1500m and was second in both the 80m Hurdles and in the 400m race. Bronagh McBreen won the U18 LJ and was second in hurdles and 100m sprint. Gina Dolan won the U18 100m and was second in the 1500m. Andrew O'Brien won the U18 1500m and was second in the 400m. Diane Trenier won the U17 SP and Diane was also third in the 1500m and LJ. Turlough Gray won the U17 100m and bronzes in the 1500m and HJ. Liam Canning won the U17 100m and was second in the hurdles. Darren Watters won the 18 400m and was second in the 100m and shot putt. In the relays, Annalee won Gold-in Girls U16, Girls U17, Girls U18, Boys U17, Silver in the Boys U16, Boys U17. The Senior and Masters events on Day two opened up with the distance and sprint events. Gayle Anderson had another great day as she won all three of her events, the 100m, 300m and Long Jump. Cian O'Reilly followed on from his recent Road Championship win, easily winning the Senior Men's 1500m and 3000m and he was also third in the 400m. Padraig O'Brien was second in the Senior Discus and Ferdia Donohoe was third in the senior 100m. The men's relay team finished in second place. Edel Kellegher jumped 1.30m to come second in the Ladies High Jump. Aisling Bates was third in the 100m. The Masters competitions were hotly contested affairs, making life difficult for the finish judges. The V1 Mens 100m was won by Annalee AC's Paul Connolly with a bronze medal being picked up by Seamus Lynch in third place. Paul Connolly also won the V1 Men's Long jump and finished third in the 3000m race. Mark McNamara was second in the V1 Shot putt. In the Ladies Events, Lorraine O'Reilly won the V1 100m and was third in the long jump and Mary Gannon was third in the Shot Putt. Evelyn O'Reilly was another triple gold medallist winning all three of her V3 events, the 100m, Shot Putt and Long Jump. Lila Dolan won the V3 800m with Eileen Watters running well to get into third place. Eileen also finished second in the 100m. Miriam Griffin was second in the Shot Putt and in the Long Jump. Aiden Watters also had two second places in the V3, the 100m and in the Shot Putt. Colm McBreen was third in the V3 Long Jump. It was all hands to the deck for the final events of the days-the Masters 4x100m relay with the Annalee teams winning both events. The Ladies Annalee B Team ran well to finish in third place Annalee AC retained the Masters Cup for 2011 with a total of 53 points. Bailiboro AC, Innyvale AC and Laragh AC Colin Comey was the Bailiboro star in the juvenile competitions, strongly winning the under 16 400m and taking silver in both the 100m and the long jump. In the Masters Mens events Philip Smith was over 300m ahead at the close of the race to take gold in the V1 3000m followed by a good performance by clubmate John Carroll to take the silver. The Masters Men went on to finish second in the Relay events. Silver was also the result for Louise Kierans in the V1 800m, while in the field events Paula Smith had a resounding shot in the V1 Shot Putt, 2.8metres ahead of the next best shot to take an honourable win. Innyvale's Aoibhin Kiernan was a gold winner of the Girls under 17 1500m, while Ashleigh Hyland came second in the U16 girls 1500m and was third in both the Shot and the long jump. In the Senior Events Eimear McGovern continued her domination of Cavan distance running, winning the senior ladies 1500m race. In the shot putt, Cathriona Leddy picked up bronze for her efforts in what turned out to be a close competition. In the senior and masters V1 shot putt, Des Mulvey was the clear winner of both. Des was also second in the senior discus. In the master's events, Marie Smith was first across the line in the ladies 800m race. Marie also won a silver medal in the long jump, once again improving her distance. Monica Sheridan took home a bronze medal for the long jump. Laragh's Brian O'Reilly maintained his top position in V3 Masters distance running this season with a strong win in the 3000m, while team mate, Michael Smith finished sixth. Shercock AC Shercock's Ciaran Corrigan showed a tremendous return to form, taking gold in all of his three events-in the Under 16 100m, Shot putt and Long Jump. Naoise Mc Daniel gave an equally great performance, winning three golds in the Under 14 Long Jump, 800m and U16 1000m walk. Edel Kieran took double gold in the under 17 100m and 300m and took silver in the long jump. Niall Clerkin was gold winner in both the under 17 boys 1500m and the long jump and took silver in the 100m. David Donagh won both U18 100m and Shot Putt and took silver in the 110m hurdles. Brefne McEntee took gold in the U16 100m and double silver in the Shot Putt and Long Jump, while Barbara Ward won under 18 100m. Barbara also took silver in both long jump and Shot. Killian Farrelly showed good form to win the U16 80m hurdles and win bronze in both the shot and high jump. Ciaran O'Reilly took gold in the under 17 boys Shot, silver in the long jump and bronze in the 100m. Silver medals were also won by Siobhan O'Reilly in the under 16 100m, who also took bronze in the 300m, by Tara Turner in the Under 16 Walk and by Padraig Donagh who won silver in both the U16 1500m and high jump and also won bronze in the 400m.Emma Duffy came second in the U18 200m, and also won bronze in the 100m. Holly Halpin won Bronze in her first two competitions of the year, 100m and High Jump, while the following athletes also won bronze in their various events; Mary Rose Donagh in U16 1000m Walk, completing a first second and third for the Shercock athletes, Fiona Mc Nally in both the under 18 100m and Shot Putt, Ronan Treanor in the Under 18 100m and double bronze by Owen Duffy in the under 18 Hurdles and 400m. In the relays, Shercock won Gold-in the Boys U16 and boys U17, silver in the Girls U16, Girls U17, Girls U18, and Boys U18, and bronze in the Girls U17and Girls18. In the Senior Events Shercock athletes achieved some outstanding results that ensured overall winning of the Cup The Shercock men dominated the 100m with Craig Lynch winning gold and Paul Smith taking silver. It was gold and silver again for Shercock in the 400m with Craig again taking the gold and James Ruxton taking the silver. In the Senior track distance events, Paul Fitzpatrick took silver in the mens 3K and club mate Neill Reilly took bronze. Paul went on later in the day to win the 3k walk-just about! in a first, second and third for Shercock as James Treanor took silver and Michael Gargan won bronze. It was a Shercock silver and bronze in the Senior mens 1500 when Jamie Kieran came second and Michael Gargan was third. It was silver and bronze again in the Senior Ladies 1500m, taken by Sinead Mullen and Michelle Murray respectively. It was a similar result in the ladies 300m with second place going to Celine Clerkin and Sinead Mullen coming third. There were similar successes in the field events where the Shercock Senior Men took first second and third in the High Jump (Paul Fitzpatrick, Richard Tsang and Kevin Ruxton) and first and second the Shot Putt (Hugh Fitzpatrick and Kevin Ruxton). Paul Smith and Kevin Ruxton also took first and second place in the Long Jump, while Hugh Fitzpatrick won the discus. For the Senior ladies in the field, Ann-Marie Burns won the High Jump and Shauna Mc Geever was third while it was silver and gold in the Long Jump won by Shauna McGeever and Celine Clerkin respectively. In the Discus, Lorraine Rogers was second and Ann-Marie Burns third.The Senior competition concluded with the Senior Ladies Medley relay, convincingly won by the Shercock A and the Shercock B team second, while in the Mens Relay, the Shercock A team won with the Shercock B team were third. Masters In the Masters Championships, Joanne Clarke, in her first year of competition, won gold in the V1 Long Jump and bronze in both the 100m and 800m, while Ann Carroll took silver in the Shot. Jody Clarke also picked up three medals in the V1 mens events, silver in both the 100m and long jump and a bronze in the Shot. Kay Mc Entee ran strongly to take silver in the V3 800m and bronze in the 100m, while Ann Kieran took bronze in the Shot. in the V3 Mens events Louis Halpin won double gold, in the Long jump and Shot, while Pat Duffy won the 100m and clubmate Brian OReilly was i3rdIn the V3, 3000m John Joe Rogers ran well to finish second and James Kieran was third while James also took silver in the long jump. The Shercock A teams in both the Mens and Ladies Masters relays finished second in very exciting finishes.
