Hyland well take time to decide our future

The Cavan management team will take time to decide on their future after yesterday's disappointing 3-17 to 1-16 defeat to Roscommon at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Cavan were well in contention at half-time, having played against the wind, when they trailed by 1-7 to 1-6 but the loss of Tomás Corr to a straight red card was a huge blow and the Rossies tore through an unusually-open Breffni defence in the second half.

Enda Smith, Donie Shine and Ultan Harney did the damage for John Evans' side as the match fell into a depressing pattern for the Cavan fans among the 7,000-strong crowd.

The Connacht men, who have now beaten Cavan six times since 2012 including an U21 All-Ireland semi-final, packed their defence and devoured the hosts on the counter as Cavan crashed out.

“We haven't planned anything otherwise,” stated manager Terry Hyland when asked about the management team's future after the match.

“We'll sit back and have a review of the year so far – we'll chat to the players, we'll chat to the county board and more importantly, probably talk among ourselves and see where we're going but no decisions will be made this evening. It will be looked at over the next couple of weeks.”
