Big guns march on after huge weekend of club action
Paul Fitzpatrick
Big guns Ballinagh, Kingscourt and champions Cavan Gaels are safely through to the next round of the Cavan Senior Football Championship after they came through this weekend's clashes against Denn, Drumgoon and Cuchulainns respectively.
And the big news is that the Gaels look to be purring as well as ever after they put five goals past the Cross-Mullagh men in a real statement of intent in Virginia yesterday (Saturday) afternoon.
Spurred on by Niall Murray, who did a good job on danger man Conor Smith, and deadly inside forwards Martin Dunne and Paul O'Connor, the Cavan Town side delivered a devastating performance.
They will meet Lacken, who held off a late surge from Gowna in a tempestuous local derby in Mullahoran, in the next round for the third successive season.
The Stars toiled for long periods against a toothless Drumgoon but finally found their range to pull away for a comfortable win in the second half. They meet Ramor in an intriguing clash next weekend.
Meanwhile, the Ballyhaise inside forward line of Stephen Smith, Padraig Moore and Martin Conaty combined for a total of 1-13 from play as John Brady's side impressed in beating a disappointing Swanlinbar by eight points in the Intermediate Championship.
