Cavan hope to secure their first win in Div 1 against Donegal

Cavan will host Ulster rivals Donegal tomorrow evening, Saturday, (throw-in, 7pm) at Kingspan Breffni Park knowing that a win is vital to their chances of remaining in the division.

The Blues' schedule handed them just three home games but with two against Dublin and Kerry - first and second favourites for the All-Ireland respectively - the match with Donegal was one Mattie McGleenan (right) and his back-room team would have targetted from the outset.
While Monaghan 'franked the form' for Cavan by following up their draw with the Breffni men with a tremendous away win in Killarney, Dublin have failed to win in two matches since they comfortably took the points in Kingspan Breffni Park on the opening day.
Those indicators mean that the Cavan players and management may find it difficult to know exactly where they are at in terms of their performance level to date.
The bookmakers, though, certainly feel that McGleenan's men are right there with the better sides in the division. They have installed Cavan at even money favourites to beat Donegal on Saturday night, with the 11/10 about Rory Gallagher's men raising some eyebrows given their draw with the Dubs last Sunday and Cavan's very patchy home form in recent seasons.
Cavan have been beaten eight times in their last 14 home matches in league and championship, going back to July 2014.
Much was made of Donegal having lost a number of players including the likes of Neil Gallagher, Eamonn McGee, Odhran McNiallais and Paul Durcan among others but they have shown that they still have the resources to compete well at the top level.
A number of important players such as Niall Murray, Jack Brady, Raymond Galligan, Cian Mackey and James McEnroe are returning to fitness for Cavan and hopes are high that the break afforded by Sunday's postponement could give them the impetus they need to claim their first win of the current National League campaign.
