Ramor United - U-8"s & u-10"s - The teams had a challenge match last Saturday morning against Castlerahan. This was a great opportunity for all the young players to display the skills they have learnt throughout the year. It is great to see such large numbers turning out every Saturday morning, and great credit must go to all the coaches and mentors involved. Training as normal this Saturday at 11am. U-12"s It has been quiet lately for some of the younger teams with most competitions finished now. Still happy after being crowned Roinn A champions in June, the U-12"s resumed training again in preparation for the Annual Peter O"Reilly Tournament which is hoped will be played shortly. Minors Ramor exited the Minor Championship on Sunday last. They suffered a defeat to Laragh on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-15. It was the proverbial game of two halves with the bare minimum between the sides at half time. The first half was a dogged affair with both sides recording a number of wides. It looked good for Ramor when they took a three point lead following a high ball in which resulted in a goal. Laragh clawed back to lead by 1 point at half time. Laragh took the initiative at the start of the second half and went two points ahead. Ramor responded with two points to draw level after 5 minutes played. From here on Laragh dominated the game, scoring 7 unanswered points. Ramor had a couple of near goal chances, but it was too late. However, Ramor can draw consolation from the fact that this is a very young side, 13 of whom are underage next year again. Laragh will have benefited from the fact that they played three games already in this competition.Nevertheless, they are a strong side and we wish them well in their next game. Ramor Seniors The next game for the Seniors is a home League game against Bailieborough on Saturday October 18th. No time given as yet. Ramor Utd Fundraiser Ramor Utd are holding a Race Night on Friday night, October 17th in Healy"s Bar, Virginia. There are horses for sale at quite a bargain and all are a sure bet! Ramor Monthly Meeting Senior Club monthly meeting has been deferred until Wednesday Oct.15th at 9pm. Ballyhaise Big Match Excitement There is only one topic of conversation in Ballyhaise this week and the same topic is dominating in neighbouring Redhills and that is the Cavan Intermediate Championship final. Great excitement abounds in both communities as both sets of supporters eagerly await Breffni Park on next Sunday at 4.00 p.m. Who will win the midfield battle? - McCrudden and Cullivan versus Leddy and Dunne. Which set of forwards will come out on top? Which team will settle first - who will emerge winners ? Ballyhaise and Redhills have not contested many County finals and then they both reach the same one in the same year. The added spice in the equation is that neighbours Drung are in the Junior final in the curtain raiser. Will Breffni Park hold the crowd for this match? Car flags and bunting is the order of the day and great excitement abounds particularly for the younger members of the area as they experience the build up. History of previous meetings are being recalled - league games in the Flaggon Meadow, tournaments in Cootehill for Gold Watch tournaments in front of sell out crowds. Strangely this is not in the memories of most of the present players as the last time both clubs met in the championship was in August 1978 - over 30 years ago! The match was a senior championship quarter final in Cootehill. A trawl of the Anglo Celt files from that year lists the teams - Ballyhaise lined out with Paddy Blessing in goals, the full back line was Seamus Watters, Liam McMenimum and Edmund Hegarty, Half backs were Micheal Watters, Thomas Conaty and Enda McGowan. Midfield was Louis Lyons and Jim Fraher and the half forwards were Barry Tierney, Steve Duggan and Captain was Hubert Conaty. The full forward line was Joey Smith R.I.P, Hughie Newman and Felim Plunkett. Redhills were represented by Joe Smith in goals, Noel Reilly, Paddy Maguire and Seamus Donohoe in the full back line, Sean McInerney, Ollie Brady and Dessie Smith in the half back line. Midfield was Brendan Smith and Dan Reilly and the six forwards were Michael Reilly, Bernard Gilsenan, Philip Brady, John Beirne, Hugh McInerney and Eugene Reilly. Ballyhaise won by 1-10 to 0-6. The admission in to Stock Car racing in Maudabawn on that weekend was 50p. The Flying Saucer had music on three nights that weekend and no doubt the venue was packed. There will be no lunch served there this Sunday as patrons and staff will be heading for Breffni. Ballyhaise went on to contest the final that year and were beaten by Cavan Gaels. We go back another ten years to 1968 for the only time Ballyhaise contested and won the Intermediate final and the team defeated Crosserlough on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-5. The victorious team that day was Michael Farrelly, Cornelius Maguire, Enda McGowan, Tom Plunkett, Mattie Smith R.I.P. Hughie Newman Capt., Mick Kevelehan, Hughie Browne, Louis Lyons, Michael Watters, Steve Duggan, Joe Leonard, Sean Colwell, Kevin McDonnell, Tony and John Joe Fay. Unusually every year that ends in 8 seems to have a significance as Redhilld lost out in an Intermediate final in 1988 so it is ironic that in this year 2008 both teams should meet in the final. The present day teams are well prepared - Gerry O Rourke, Pat Duggan and Father Michael Router are the Ballyhaise management and they have worked hard with the panel of players. Colm Reilly is the Captain and he will be continuing to motivate his players. We look forward to an exciting game full of the skills of Gaelic football and there is no doubt that both teams can deliver that. The last person leaving the village is asked to put out the lights and if they forget maybe the last person coming from Redhills will do it! Poker Classic There was a big turnout on Friday night for the game in Austin Brady"s with Brian Tierney once again emerging victorious. Alo Prior Jr., in second place qualifies for the Season Finale and Sean McDermott, Redhills and Gene Fay finished third and fourth. Next weeks game will be something akin to an Up for the Match special and Redhills poker players are especially welcome. The game starts at 9.30 sharp and refreshments will be served. Do come along and support the Juvenile GAA club in what promises to be an entertaining night. Under 16 Tournament Sean Prior and his charges made the trip to Derrygonnelly, County Fermanagh at the invitation of the home club and they emerged victorious on last Saturday. The Under 12s and Under 10s continue their training this week in Annalee Park. Junior C Team The Junior C team put up a great performance last Saturday but ended up losing to a strong Bailieboro side. Conditions were very wet and the game was switched to the old Ramor field. Despite having a lot of possession in the second half Ballyhaise failed to get the vital scores and lost out on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-4. Junior D semi-final This Saturday our third team are in action against Arva in the semi-final at 4.00. Please check fixtures for venue and all support would be greatly appreciated. There was no jackpot winner and the €30 winners were Dermot Lee, Bernard Gilsenan, Pat Flanagan, Leitrim, Martin Duffy, Butlersbridge, Michael McEntee, Redhills, Helena and Sean, Ballyhaise and sellers prize Cathleen Daly. Special Presentation A special presentation was made on last Friday at football training to our hard working secretary, Mark O Rourke by players and officers of the club to mark his tenth wedding anniversary. Congratulations and best wishes to Mark and Ann. Although the season is starting to draw to a close the ladies and minor teams are still giving Killeshandra supporters something to cheer about with two great wins at the weekend. The club would like to wish both teams the best of luck in the future matches and hope their winning ways continue. Killeshandra Arva/Killeshandra had an emphatic win over Tyrone Junior champions Clan na nGael on Sunday morning last. The hard work they put in all year paid off when the girls sharpness and fitness showed and gave them a victory in the first round of the Ulster Championship 4-9 to 4 points. The team was faster, fitter and more alert all over the field and dominated throughout the match, the result never looked in doubt when after 16 minutes the girls were 4-4 to no score ahead. It is hoped that they can continue their hold on victory this weekend in the Ulster Semi final. (see match report). Bailieborough Shamrocks The Juniors took on Ballyhaise in Virginia on Saturday last in the semi final of the Junior C Championship. Despite the atrocious conditions the game went ahead in heavy rain which served to make a lottery out of the exchanges at times. Players found it difficult to hold on to the ball and there were a lot of handling errors. Despite this the game was quite entertaining as both sets of players gave 100% over the hour. Ballyhaise opened the scoring but Bailieborough were in the ascendancy in the first half and took a 6 point to 2 lead coming up to half time. Then came the decisive score of the game when some nice interchange between the Shamrocks forwards ended with Paddy Bird finishing to the net. Ballyhaise rallied in the second half however, despite some good possession, they were unable to breach the Bailieborough defence which came under serious pressure at times. The final score was 1-9 to 4 points in favour of the Shamrocks who now await the winners of Drumgoon and Knockbride in the final. This result sees the continuation of a good run for the junior team but it also gives an impetus to the whole senior squad with vital league matches coming up. Training is continuing with good attendances in preparation for both. Incidentally great credit is due to the Ramor officials who coped very well with the fixture in very difficult circumstances. In particular the car park stewards dealt efficiently and in a good humoured fashion with the large crowd who attended both this game and the subsequent ladies match. Development Draw Club members are busy at present promoting the fundraising draw. Support from the local community is vital to ensure that work is completed for the start of next season. Reports are that reaction to this fundraising activity is positive as people can see that a much needed facility is being provided. Ticket sales are good but a lot of work is still to be done to ensure the success of the draw. Tickets are 50 euros each and can be obtained from any committee member. Under Age Under 16s The under 16s continue to prepare for the replay of the final against Cavan Gaels. The Shamrocks were favourites going into the drawn game but one can never underestimate the Gaels and now the match is wide open. There is a feeling in the Bailieborough camp that there is a better performance in the team and they are looking forward to a chance to prove this in the replay. As yet there is no date fixed for this game- see fixtures for details. Under 8s and 10s Both teams are still training hard with a view to participating in blitz competitons before the season ends. The under 8s have switched the training day to Saturday morning in St Anne"s Park.
