What's on for the bank holiday weekend

Compiled by Aine McMahon Flat Lake Festival When: June 3-5 Where: Hilton Park Estate, Clones What: The Flat Lake festival is a fantastic weekend of creativity set in the glorious Hilton Park Estate in Co. Monaghan. It offers just about everything including film screenings, theatrical debuts, literary and historical talks, heated debate, poetry recitals, children's entertainment, a typewriter exhibition and delicious food and drink. Single and weekend tickets are still available. See pg 43 for more. Killinkere Whit Jamboree When: June 3-6 Where: Killinkere What: This is the key festival to kick-start your Summer, following on from last year's brilliant airshow, what will Killinkere have up their sleeves to entertain this year? A great weekend of entertainment that will include music, zorbing, dog show, Bonny Baby, Old Folks Party, inflatables, amusements and much more. Cavan County Fleadh Where: June 3-6 Where: Kilnaleck What: It's time to get in training for the All-Ireland Fleadh in Cavan this weekend as the Cavan County Fleadh will take place in Kilnaleck over the bank holiday weekend. Expect plenty of competitions not to mention plenty of trad sessions and a céilí. See page 2 for more. The Cuilcagh Festival When: May 23 to June 7 Where: Swanlinbar What: The annual Cuilcagh Festival in west Cavan also takes place over the bank holiday weekend. The Swanlinbar Development Association in association with Cavan County Council Arts Office organise the festival. Highlights from the weekend include traditional Irish music night in The Swan Bar on Friday night, 'Mime and Masks' on Saturday in Trivia House from 11am and of course the Cuilcagh Walk on Sunday. Plenty of family entertainment is also promised with a barbeque and live music following the walk. See www.cavanarts.ie for more details. Party weekend in Kilcogy When: June 3-5 Where: Kilcogy What: A fundraising weekend in aid of the Cavan Cancer Homecare Association. Starting on Friday night with a sponsored headshave in Sheridan's Bar, country and western night with Larry Cunningham in Micsin's on Saturday, a fun family day and barbeque on Sunday, tractor run and Rock the Night Away in Micsin's on Sunday night with Legatos. See page 43 for more. Arvagh Seniors Coarse Fishing Competition When: June 6-10 Where: Arvagh What: The Arvagh Seniors coarse fishing competiton is now in its fifth year. It is a five day coarse angling event, sponsored by the Breffni Arms Hotel and organised by Irvin Vaines. Limit of 75 pegs on the match. This festival is competitive, but at night there is the the opportunity to unwind and relax. Michael Walshe Memorial Cup When: June 5 Where: Rainbow Ballroom, Glenfarne, County Leitrim What: Waltz the night way in the Rainbow Ballroom. The Michael Walshe Memorial waltzing cup takes place between 9.30 to midnight. Music will be provided by The Cannon and Ramsay band. Twin Parade and Carrickmacross Festival When: June 4 Where: Carrickmacross What: Calling all twins and triplets! The second ever Twins Parade takes place this Saturday during a fun packed and exciting J festival in Carrickmacross. The event is a family day featured around twins and multiples with the aim of breaking the record for the highest number of twins in one place in Ireland at the same time. With 231 sets attending from all over Ireland and the UK in 2010, its sure to be a bigger and better Twintastic event in 2011. Who knows, Jedward might even be there! Tombs & Tales Walks with Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks When: June 4-5 Where: Glenfarne, Co, Leitrim What: Get out there and enjoy the beautiful, unspoiled landscape while brushing up on your history of Leitrim with a 'Tombs & Tales' Walk with Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walking tours. Hunt for a Hunk When: June 6 @ 9pm Where: Reghlabeg House, Bailieborough What: 'Hunt for a Hunk' fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland showcases the hottest men Cavan has to offer as they strut their stuff to raise money for the charity. They will each have a party piece to perform on the night and will be plucked and preened to perfection. As if that wasn't enough, there will be plenty of beer, a DJ and an auction being held to win some fantastic prizes which include two premier tickets to a Chelsea match, an All-Ireland Premium level hurling ticket and a 'Pamper me Spa package'. Andy Murray fights for the EBU Lightweight title When: Saturday June 4 @ 10pm Where: The Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff and live on Sky Sports What: Ding ding, Round One! The Cavan man takes on Gavin Rees for the lightweight title in what looks set to be a thrilling encounter. Night at the Races When: June 4 @ 9pm Where: Murtagh's Lounge, Kingscourt What: Race night in Kingsourt with proceeds to St Mary's Brass and Reed Band. Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival Launch Party When: June 3 Where: The Palace Nightclub, Navan What: Now entering its 14th year, Le Cheile, based in Oldcastle, has gone from strength to strength since its inception. This year sees possibly the strongest line up in its history, and there is already a huge amount of excitement and anticipation building. High Nellie Cycle When: June 4 Where: Ballyjamesduff to Virginia What: This is in aid of the Attracta Doherty Pink n' Gold Fund. The cycle from Balljamesduff to Oldcastle, Virginia and back to base will take place in period gear. On return to Ballyjamesduff McCabe's Bar & Lounge, are hosting the evening's entertainment, where there will be a barbeque starting at 8pm and music in the lounge by Timmy King & Friends.
