Comedy demands Begrudging respect

"It could be great," says filmmaker Finn Keenan giving his verdict on the performance he's literally just finished shooting. "I really think it could be great." Radiating a heady mix of enthusiasm, disbelief and relief, he's heating up the freezing open-fronted woodshed outside the normally defunct Eagle Bar which has temporarily become a film set. He's stepped outside of the cacophony of the crew's celebrations ignited by director Philip Doherty calling a wrap on the duo's first proper production. The short film, The Begrudgers, sees the transferral of two unforgettable characters from the hit stage production - Fleadh Town - to a short film for RTÉ's Storyland competition. If all of the twenty-odd cast and crew are tipsy on the success of the intensive two day shoot, Finn is emotionally stocious. And rightly so. See this week's Celt for more...
