Come Dine With Me in Cavan!

Fans of the popular Come Dine With Me will be delighted to learn that the reality TV series is set to return to our screens on Monday night on TV3 and the open week hits Cavan and Monaghan. The five hosts of the week attempting to impress with their culinary and hosting skills are Bailieboro writer Patrick Walsh; Tony Sheridan (24), a PhD student from Carrickmacross; Taine King, photographer from Castleblayney; pub landlady, Collette McGahern from Mullahoran and accommodation assistant, Pauline Farrelly from Belturbet. For those who are not familiar with the show, five hosts will take it in turns (Monday to Friday) to throw a dinner party in their own personal style. After each dinner, the guests secretly score the most a mark out of ten. They are marked on quality of the food and atmosphere. At the end of the week, the winner is revealed to take the €1,000 prize. Cavan Day 1 First host on Monday is Tony Sheridan. With modesty not his strongpoint, uber-confident Tony is convinced he'll win over the other guests with a menu designed by his sister: a trained chef. Entertainment comes from Tony's dad's pipe band and the sight of grown men in kilts caused quite a stir with the guests - especially Collette who can't resist a cheeky dig at what might be hidden under their kilts. The evening's dessert was made by Tony's sister who will try to pass it off as his own. Will his hosting skills be enough to bag him the €1,000 prize? Cavan Day 2 Second to host in Cavan will be cleaner and complete non-cook Pauline Farelly. Pauline has never cooked for a dinner party in her life! In fact she's never cooked anything really. While trying to keep it simple with the menu, Pauline is concerned she might give her guests food poisoning - so she's bought in extra supplies of toilet roll just in case. In an attempt to take the focus off the food, Pauline asks her guests to dress as their celebrity lookalike for the night. Pub landlady Collette McGahern shows off her figure in a revealing Liz Hurley style safety-pin dress giving writer Patrick Walsh the chance to start a series of risqué conversations. When Pauline serves up a big slice of comedy for dessert - a still frozen baked Alaska - everyone is in hysterics. But, in spite of her disastrous dessert, will it be Pauline laughing all the way to the €1,000 prize? Cavan Day 3 Third to host on Wednesday is writer and bon viveur Patrick Walsh. Patrick confesses to being a bit of a beginner when it comes to cooking, so he's opted for simple dishes in the hope that he can gain points by charming his four guests. Obsessed with Oscar Wilde, Patrick gets everyone to come in Victorian dress. Pub landlady Collette McGahern wears a low-cut dress that has potential to drive Patrick to distraction, but he is determined to concentrate on playing host. In a chat about art, photographer Taine King and lecturer Tony Sheridan are at loggerheads and voices are raised. To distract them, Patrick's entertainment of Oscar Wilde stories and quotations calms the mood so much that hotel worker Pauline Farrelly falls asleep. Patrick's simple soup starter and chicken main course may not win him too many points, but will his literary evening scoop him the €1,000? Cavan Day 4 Thursday night's host is arty set photographer Taine King. Taine is a self-confessed foodie, going all out in the kitchen in attempt to wow her guests with a sophisticated fine dining menu. Her restaurant style food includes dishes such as scallops with black pudding and brandy cream, and duck confit, which has come all the way from France… in a can! Unfortunately Taine's food doesn't quite hit the mark with cleaner Pauline Farelly who spits the duck out at the table. Fussy eater Colette McGahern isn't a fan either and Taine's disappointment soon turns to anger when Colette barely touches any of the dishes. Ladies' man Patrick Walsh continues to flirt with Colette, but she's quick to put him in his place when he reveals his conservative views about breast feeding in public. And the surprising revelations don't end there, as Taine confesses to a bizarre plan to turn her dog's hair into a scarf. Taine's sophisticated kitchen skills and exotic ingredients might go unappreciated by some, but has she pushed the boat out far enough to bag the €1,000? Cavan Day 5 Friday's the final night of a fascinating competition. It's the turn of glamorous pub landlady Collette McGahern to try and claim the prize money. Collette has kept her menu simple, hoping to win over her guests with a charm offensive and plenty of craic in the bar. The starter of black and white pudding isn't a big hit and non-drinker Collette's choice of wine doesn't go down well. A main course of lemon chicken doesn't win favour either, and a low-point is reached with the semolina pudding - a nostalgia dish that the guests would rather forget. The entertainment is of course provided by Collette, in her "famous" green dress, singing a song about her own bar. As the host, Collette gets to reveal the winner of the €1,000 prize money. Will the guests vote her's the best dinner party or will someone else get their hands on the dough? Come Dine With Me Cavan airs each evening, Monday to Friday, at 9pm on TV3.
