Charged with carrying firearm during theft

A 34-year-old man has appeared at a special sitting of Cavan District Court this morning charged with the theft of money and of carrying a firearm with criminal intent at Rudden's petrol station on Railyway Road, Cavan Town, on Wednesday (January 14).

Tony Campbell (34) with an address at 5 The Steeples, Cavan Town, was before Judge Cormac Dunne at the sitting where he was remanded in custody to Castelrea Prison on the charges in which he is accused of the theft of €190 at around 9.30pm on the night.

A bail objection was upheld and a file has gone from Cavan gardai to the Director of Public Prosecutions. He will appear before the next sitting of Harristown court on January 23.
