Cavan County Council has launched its 2019 Spring Clean Campaign.jpg

National Spring Clean launched

The launch took place on Monday, April 8, at Lakeview Estate, The Fairgreen, Cavan, overseen by Council Cathaoirleach Madeleine Argue and Sarah McGovern Vaughan, National Spring Clean ambassador.

National Spring Clean is Ireland’s biggest anti-litter campaign and encourages people to take pride in their local environment and to take action against litter.

Throughout the month of April, National Spring Clean will encourage communities from across Cavan to tackle the problem of litter in local areas and to see the benefits of a litter-free environment. A large number of Spring Cleans, spearheaded by Tidy Town Committees and local development groups, are taking place this weekend all over the county (see the local news section for details).

This year, the initiative wants to raise awareness about the link between litter and climate change.

With the participation of over 1,500 local volunteers and 80 tonnes of litter collected in 2018, National Spring Clean 2019 aims to build on that progress and momentum.

Groups should register with An Taisce by phone on 014002219 or online at www.nationalspringclean.org

All groups who register will receive a free clean-up kit comprising information, posters, colour coded refuse sacks for segregation of waste materials, protective gloves and high-viz vests.

Further materials including litter pickers, bags and gloves are provided by Cavan County Council.

All groups should also contact Cavan County Council in good time prior to their clean-up event.
