A man has been arrested and is currently being held for questioning at Cavan Garda Station following the estimated seizure of more than €40,000 worth of drugs.

The cannabis and tablets, pending analysis, were discovered by local members of An Garda Siochana while on foot patrol in the Cavan Town area this morning, January 10.

The seizure was made following a 'stop and search' operation in the vicinity of Cavan Bus Station on the junction of Farnham Street and Railway Road.

The male, aged in his late 20's, is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Crackdown

It is the latest significant drugs seizure following a major crackdown on alleged drug dealing across the county in recent months.

Over the New Year cocaine was seized and one male arrested in the south-east of the county.
That followed a surveillance operation on an apartment in the Virginia area.
A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the matter.
Before Christmas gardaí from Blacklion, assisted by gardaí from Ballyconnell, conducted a search of a premises in the Blacklion area just before Christmas.
A growhouse was discovered and a large number of cannabis plants (pending analysis) were seized. Again, one man was arrested and detained for questioning and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
