‘Resumption of violence deeply concerning’

Chief Executive of QIH Liam McCaffrey has described as “deeply concerning” an attempted firebomb attack outside the home of a relative of a QIH Director at the weekend.

The incident occurred at a location outside Derrylin in the early hours of last Saturday morning, February 15 when attackers attempted to set fire to a vehicle outside a family home. It was captured on CCTV and the PSNI are investigating.

It is the first such incident since the kidnap and torture of QIH Director Kevin Lunney last September. Four persons are currently before the courts charged with his assault and false imprisonment.

“Following the savage kidnap and torture of Kevin Lunney this resumption of violence and intimidation is deeply concerning and shows that the perpetrators will stop at nothing until those directing their activities are brought to justice,” said Mr McCaffrey.

“We are enormously relieved that this further attack, again outside a domestic home, was contained without loss of life or serious damage.”
