Virginia RFC granted permission to develop clubhouse

Virginia RFC have been given the green light to progress with a significant upgrade to the clubs facilities.

Th West Cavan club, founded in 1977, has strong competitive underage and senior teams that compete in the Ulster provincial club structure. Virginia’s Deerpark ground has in the past been made available to local GAA clubs for training.

The club was granted permission to demolish the existing clubroom building and remove temporary changing room. This will facilitate the construction of a new two storey changing rooms and clubrooms with connection to existing public sewer and all other site development works.

The original application was made last November with the local authority planning department coming to its decision on Monday of this week.

The application was objected to by a group of residents from three properties in the Deerpark area. The objectors cited a number of issues surrounding the development. Parking and traffic management, waste water and drainage, and changes to privacy and light for the residents were among the reasons that the parties objected to the development.

The permission granted by the local authority planning department is subject to eight conditions.
