Major new extension plans for Virginia College

The additional accommodation, contained within a multi-storey extension to the existing school building, was confirmed following a successful submission to the Department of Education by the Cavan Monaghan Education Training Board (CMETB).

Details of a major multi-million euro investment plan in Virginia College have been announced.

Nine new general classrooms, three science labs, as well as special education facilities will be added to the local secondary school.

The special education facilities will include two Special Education Teacher (SET) rooms and two Special Educational Needs (SEN) rooms.

There will also be two prep rooms added.

The additional accommodation has been welcomed by Minister Heather Humphreys who said the works, contained within a multi-storey extension to the existing school building, have been confirmed following a successful submission to the Department of Education by the Cavan Monaghan Education Training Board (CMETB).

She added that investing in school buildings is more important than ever in light of the ongoing pandemic, and she praised the school authorities, Principal Niall Lynch and Cavan Monaghan ETB CEO John Kearney, for their ongoing efforts.

“The last number of months have been very tough on parents, teachers and pupils as a result of school closures due to Covid-19,” Minister Humphreys said. “Now more than ever, providing high quality accommodation in our schools is so important.

“I want to pay tribute to all involved in Virginia College, who have been working closely with the Cavan Monaghan ETB to secure this investment.

“This multi-million euro project will come as hugely welcome news for all parents and pupils involved, as they get ready for our schools to return,” Minister Humphreys added.
