December completion date for Holy Family School work

The new €13M Holy Family School in Cootehill will be completed by the end of the year. Last April building of the new 26-classroom facility was halted because of Covid-19 restrictions. Today Education Minister, Norma Foley, confirmed that works on the Cootehill school is set to be finished in December.

The school community has been pushing for a new school since the early 1970s and the file passed through the hands of 10 Minister for Education before finally getting the green light.

The new €13M educational facility will feature 26 classrooms, each fitted out to cater for young people with learning difficulties or who face physical challenges.

The project commenced on site in June 2018 with a contract duration of approximately 27 months will finally be completed in December this year.

Speaking on the announcement Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth welcomed confirmation saying: “I am pleased with confirmation from the Department of Education that the Holy Family School will be completed in December. The new school will be hugely beneficial for all the children in the locality for generations to come.”

“I have been informed by the Department that the contractor appointed on the building project has recommenced construction activity on site and is operating in compliance with the ‘Return to Work Safely Protocol’. The anticipated substantial completion date is December 2020,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
