Tenders approved for Ballyjamesduff Fire Station

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage has approved the tender submitted by Cavan County Council for the construction of a new Fire Station in Ballyjamesduff .

In May of last year tenders were issued for a new two-storey fire station in Ballyjamesduff after it was described as being “not fit for purpose” by local elected representatives.

The new station is expected to be “almost identical” to the recently opened station in Virginia. Phase eight planning permission for the new fire station was approved 12 months ago.

Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) welcomed the investment of around €1.5 million set aside for the provision of new facilities.

“I am glad to have supported the work of Cavan County Council in bringing this much-needed project to this stage,” Deputy Smith said, “All the personnel in our Emergency Services need proper facilities and this new station will be a welcome addition to our county’s fire services facilities.

“Last December Minister O’Brien included Ballyjamesduff in his Department’s construction programme for 2021 and in the meantime I had continually highlighted the need to have this project progressed to construction stage as soon as possible,” Deputy Smith concluded.
