Rain and drizzle today but sunny from midweek

Weather Update

Generally cloudy today with outbreaks of rain and drizzle mainly affecting the western half of the province. Most of the day will be drier further east with occasional bright spells but scattered outbreaks of rain will spread eastwards this evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees, coolest in the west of the province, in a light to moderate southerly breeze.

Tonight will be overcast with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. However, the rain and drizzle will turn lighter and patchier as the night goes on. Patches of mist will develop overnight, with some hill and coastal fog also. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees in a light southerly or variable breeze.

A dull and cloudy start to tomorrow with scattered patches of rain and drizzle. This rain and drizzle will gradually ease southwards through the afternoon with bright or sunny spells developing towards evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in a light variable breeze, becoming light to moderate northerly through the afternoon.

High pressure becoming dominant through Tuesday night and Wednesday, bringing settled conditions for midweek and beyond. There will be a good deal of dry and bright weather out to the weekend.

Any lingering rain and drizzle will die out early on to leave a largely dry night Tuesday. Cloud will gradually break up overnight too with clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees over the northern half of the country but less cold further south with lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees, in a light to moderate northeasterly breeze.

Wednesday is forecast to be a largely dry and bright day with widespread sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees generally but milder in Munster with highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees, in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

Continuing dry and largely clear on Wednesday night. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees generally, but colder over Ulster and Connacht where there will be a touch of grass frost with lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees. Light easterly breezes.

Another generally dry and bright day with sunny spells is promised Thursday. There is the chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, coolest in the east and south in a light to moderate southeasterly breeze.

Staying dry with long clear spells overnight on Thursday. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees generally but again colder over Ulster with lowest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees there, bringing a touch of grass frost.

Another dry and sunny day in store for Friday. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, mildest over the midlands and Connacht and coolest along the east and south coasts in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

Current indications suggest that the dry and sunny conditions will continue into the weekend as high pressure maintains its dominance over our weather.
