Arva Active Age Ladies ready to hit the road when Covid regulations allow. Mary Miney, Breege Fox, Ethel Ellis and standing at the back is Rosemary Keith.

Active Age Ladies in waiting... patiently!

The ladies in Arva Active Age have been missing their group activities and social interactions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, which forced the cancellation of many of their physical events and outings.

Brid Fox pointed out that, in addition to their annual holiday, they would have days out and afternoon tea events. Their staycation traditionally took place at the end of June and they have previously visited places such as Killarney and Wexford.

Mary Miney said the group had to adapt and did a number of practical things to help its members including making up self help packs that contained face masks, hand sanitiser and a little night light. These were given out to the members in a carpark drive by. “They were also given a copy of the exercises that we do on a Tuesday,” added Mary.

The group traditionally meet every Tuesday morning in St Patrick’s Hall and prior to the first lockdown also had a successful choir going on Monday nights.

“We have been trying our best to do exercises at home. We usually meet on the first Friday in normal times and have soup, sandwiches, tea or coffee in the Breffni Arms Hotel. That is another thing we are looking forward to, because a lot of the members who do not take part in the exercises, would come to the meet-up in the Breffni Arms,” said Mary.

The Ladies were also involved in a walking club courtesy of Cavan Sports Partnership and they were using Nordic poles to assist them with their walking.

They were just getting accustomed to that activity on a Tuesday morning when their meetings were halted, but are looking forward to returning to their walking and other regular activities in the not too distant future.
