Lorraine O’Neill giving Gordan Smith from Cavan Town a smart new haircut.

Clippers buzzing again

The clippers were humming once again in Lorraine O’Neill's Barber shop in Cavan Town yesterday afternoon and the craic was ninety.

"I will be open here 24 years on the 22nd of this month and it is the longest time I have ever been off, as I did not take maternity leave," a relieved Lorraine told the Celt.

She didn't find the first lockdown quite as difficult. "It was a novelty. This time was different and I found it very hard. I was absolutely buzzing to get back to work this morning. I could not wait to get back in the door," said the popular Redhills native.

"I am just hoping everything goes well and that we don’t have to close down again. I want everybody leaving here to be thinking – I felt safe in there," said Lorraine who is looking forward to meeting all her customers again.

Lorraine emphasised that she will be strictly adhering to the guidelines with no more than four customers in the shop at any one time. "Here in this Barber Shop there will be two people getting their hair cut and two people waiting," she explained.

She is using the Booksy App to arrange appointments for customers.

Gordan Smith is a Leaving Certificate student who attends Breifne College. He said he was delighted to finally get his hair cut.

"It is about time they opened back up," said a delighted Gordan in the chair.
