Ballinagh and District Vintage Club funds new stroke chair for Cavan General Hospital

Last Tuesday afternoon was a proud day for the members of the Ballinagh and District Vintage Club when they were pictured by the Celt outside of Cavan General Hospital with a fantastic, specially designed, chair for the Stoke Unit. The chair was bought with proceeds raised from the Annual Sam Bennett Memorial run back in 2018.

Club secretary Anne McGauran was thrilled to see the money going on the piece of equipment they had earmarked for the hospital.

“We raised over €8,000 and the chair is specially designed for stroke patients,” John Walsh said.

Frances Smith from the Stroke Unit in Cavan General Hospital said: “We were very fortunate to receive this donation from the Ballinagh and District Vintage Club to purchase this chair for patient comfort. The chair adapts to the size of the patient, regardless of whether they are a tall or small person. It has already been utilised in the hospital.”

It is anticipated that the club will be unable to stage the annual Sam Bennett Memorial Run until August, 2022, in the light of the Covid situation.
