New Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Councillor

Fianna Fail's Clifford Kelly has been elected to the role of Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Councillor for the coming year. The new Cathaoirleach received his chain of office at the local authority's Annual General Meeting held 'in person' in the Hotel Kilmore on Monday.

The formal presentation of the chain of office by outgoing Cathaoirleach, Cllr Sarah O'Reilly (Aontas), was made at the first face to face meeting of the authority since the easing of restrictions.

Cathaoirleach Kelly was proposed for the position by party colleague, Cllr Aidan Fitzpatrick, and seconded by Cllr John Paul Feeley (FF). The role of Leas-Cathaoirleach will be undertaken by Cllr Craig Lovett (FF).

Cllr Lovett was proposed for the post by Cllr Philip Brady and seconded by Patricia Walsh. Both candidates were unopposed.

On taking up the position Cathaoirleach Kelly commended the outgoing chair saying Cllr O'Reilly was a “hard taskmaster”, but fulfilled the role with a high degree of professionalism. The new Cathaoirleach thanked his nominees and the family and friends who attended and paid particular tribute to his wife Betty, who was unable to attend, for her continuous support.
