Bailieborough pool gets €95k in stability funding

Bailieborough Swimming and Leisure Centre has received the lion's share of €169,000 in support for organisations impacted by the pandemic.

The Covid funding was allocated to six organisations across County Cavan, with the Bailieborough centre receiving €95,000.

The Cavan Centre, which provides youth services and is based in Ballyjamesduff, is to receive €30,000 in supports. Some €25,000 is to be provided to the Killeshandra Community Council, while €9,175 will be received by Bunnoe Community Enterprises.

Finally, Denn Development Ltd is receive €7,500 and the Afro in Diaspora Centre is to receive €2,000.

The funding for Cavan is part of a €4.5 million package under the Covid-19 Stability funding.

“I was conscious that many community and voluntary groups are struggling financially due to the recession," said Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys. “This funding will give them a really important cash injection – so that they can continue to serve the needs of their community.

“I want to particularly mention the Bailieborough Swimming and Leisure Centre, who I have previously helped to secure funding along with my Government colleague, Senator Joe O’Reilly.

“This facility is hugely important in Bailieborough and I know this funding will be welcomed by the whole community.”

Minister Humphreys continued: “Some 16 months since the start of the Pandemic, hundreds of charities and other organisations across the State continue to provide critical services to vulnerable people and communities.

“The funding represents an important lifeline for many of these organisations who continue to play a critical role, supporting and assisting tens of thousands of our citizens.”

Deputy Niamh Smyth (FF) also joined in the congratulations, saying the government is fully aware of the "tremendous role" played by community and voluntary groups in supporting communities and delivering important services.

“COVID-19 has brought challenges to these organisations, particularly with their cash flow and the practicalities of keeping their doors open. This funding is a vital lifeline to stabilise the position of many of these social enterprises and help those who give so selflessly of their time to continue with their good work.

"I am delighted to hear that 12 community groups across Cavan and Monaghan will benefit from today’s announcement. It is my hope that funding will allow these organisations to continue this valuable support as we all work towards a social and economic recovery," she said.
