Gaels to take on county champs
Details of this weekend's county GAA fixtures
The long wait finally came to an end at the weekend as the Cavan club football championships threw in at last.
All three grades threw up thrilling matches; the heavyweight clash of Ramor United and Crosserlough on Thursday evening saw the champions slip to a one-point defeat while, elsewhere, there were one-point wins for Gowna and Kingscourt, Lacken and Laragh drew, Lavey hit five goals to stun Castlerahan and Cavan Gaels surged past Ballinagh late on.
In intermediate ranks, Butlersbridge saw off an understrength Drumlane, Cuchulainns beat Belturbet by three, Cornafean had a huge win over recently-crowned 2020 junior champions Templeport and not even a hat-trick from Liam Buchanan could stop Killinkere beating Ballymachugh in a terrific contest.
The tie of the round this week is certainly the meeting of Crosserlough and Cavan Gaels while there are intriguing games across the board which are sure to draw large crowds to Kingspan Breffni, which will be allowed admit larger crowds from this week on as pandemic restrictions begin to ease.
