Walk with Rory this Sunday

On Sunday 12th September, Rugby Legend Rory Best will walk into Cavan. The legend of Ulster Rugby and former Ireland Rugby captain is undertaking a 180km walk for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The walk will raise money for The Charity Cancer Fund For Children and will see Rory walking from Daisy Lodge in Newcastle to arrive in Cong in Mayo on Thursday, September 16.

Daisy Lodge in Newcastle is a therapeutic centre supporting children with a cancer diagnosis and their families, While the destination in Cong is the site of the proposed second Daisy Lodge Therapeutic Centre.

Along the route Rory is being joined for short periods by families affected by cancer as well as some notable names. For his Cavan leg of the journey Rory will be in the company of Neven Magurie.

Other's scheduled to joining him on the walk are rugby players Tommy Bowe, Jacob Stockdale, Tadhg Furlong, Rob Kearney, Robert Balacoune, Bundee Aki and Conor Murray.

He will pass through Counties Down, Armagh, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo, and Mayo, taking in over 30 towns and villages along his epic journey.

“My family and friends will tell you that I’m not a fan of walking. Walking 180 miles in nine days will be tough but nowhere near as tough as the challenges that families dealing with childhood cancer face,” says Rory.

“I’m not only taking on this challenge to raise vital funds but also awareness of the impact cancer has on the lives of children and young people. Already an incredible €272,794.18 has been raised and I would like to thank our fantastic sponsors, local schools, clubs and businesses for getting behind me. If you can, please donate to my challenge and cheer me on as I pass through your towns and villages.”
