Man interviewed over Carrickmacross vandalism

An investigation was launched earlier this month.

A man in his 20s has been questioned after vandalism in Carrickmacross recently.

The incident happened late on Sunday September 12 or early on the following morning.

Flower pots and planters on Main Street were vandalised, with flowers and compost strewn across footpaths.

They had been planted by the local Tidy Towns group.

Gardaí had launched an investigation and have now confirmed a man in his early 20s has been interviewed in relation to the incident.

They have thanked members of the public who assisted in progressing the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Tidy Towns group in Carrickmacross has hit out comments questioning why Gardaí were investigating the incident.

In a post on social media the group said the planters were placed and cared for by volunteers “who give their time freely to enhance the environs for every member of the community regardless of age, race or creed”.
