It is with regret that we note the following deaths in our community over the past few days, as reported on RIP.ie

Maureen Dowd (nee Cronin)

Latnadrona, Crosserlough, Co. Cavan

Passed away peacefully on 1st December 2021 in Cavan General Hospital in the loving care of her family and the Staff of Surgical 1.

Predeceased by her husband Tom Dowd, her brothers Hugh P and Colm Cronin.

Maureen will be sadly missed by her daughters Anna and Tina, her son in law Donal Briody and her grandchildren Lauren and Ellie, her brothers Sean, Tommy, Andy and Michael, brother in law Mick Dowd, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, all her relatives, friends and neighbours.

Thomas (Tom) Hughes

Summerbank, Oldcastle, Co. Meath and late of Polleragh, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan (former caretaker of St Oliver’s Post Primary School, Oldcastle).

Tuesday, November 30th, suddenly, in the loving care of his family and the matron and staff of Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

Predeceased by his father Patrick, mother Catherine, brother Pat and sisters Eileen, Annie, Kathleen, Rita, Alice, Bridgie and Betty. Deeply regretted by his loving wife of 54 years, M. B.; son Patrick, daughters Eileen and Olivia, grandchildren Peter, Orla, Eimear and Aoife, brother Jim, sister Teresa, son-in-law Oliver, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at his home in Summerbank, Oldcastle (A82 F6F7) on Wednesday, December 1st, from 6pm to 8pm and on Thursday, December 2nd, from 6pm to 8pm. Removal on Friday, December 3rd to St Brigid’s Church, Oldcastle, arriving for 12 noon Funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in local cemetery. House private on Friday morning please.

Tommy, (The Scot) Smith

Ramor Close, Virginia

Peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital, in the arms of his beloved wife Brigid (Annie). Predeceased by his father Peter and his mother Mary, his brothers and sisters Margaret, Molly, Kitty, Betty, Peter, John, James and Danny. Survived by his wife Brigid, his son John Kennedy, his Grandson Teddy, sisters Frances, Josie and Jeanette, his brothers in law, his sisters in law, nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, his wonderful neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Remains reposing at Matthews' Funeral Home, Bailieborough Road, Virginia (A82YV58), on Thursday from 5pm until 8pm. As a mark of respect to Tommy and to honour his unwavering support and contribution to Virginia Tidy Towns, the cortege will travel from his home on Friday morning, towards the lake and continue down Main Street to the Square, to arrive at Mary Immaculate Church, Virginia, for 11 o'clock Funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Mourners are asked to please adhere to public health guidelines whilst congregating and maintain a social distance at all times.

House strictly private. No exceptions.

Tommy’s wife Brigid would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and dedication of all who looked after Tommy during his illnesses, but in particular the exceptional care, attention and understanding of the Emergency Department in Cavan and in Surgical 2 in recent days. A special mention to Dr. Igoe and Dr. Fortune and her wonderful team, for their exceptional care shown to Tommy.

The support, strength and attention shown by these medical professionals will never be forgotten.

Elizabeth Conlon (Lizzie) (nee McEneaney)

Ballinarea, Cullyhanna, (formerly Lisdoney, Oram)

30th November 2021. Passed away peacefully in the loving care of her family at her daughter's residence,37 Blayney Road, Crossmaglen. Predeceased by her husband Gerry Conlon and sons Martin and Sean RIP. Loving mother of Geraldine Ali (Armagh), Eilish Murray(Crossmaglen), Brian (Belfast), Kieran(Clonmore), Declan (Dromintee) and Colm (Cullyhanna), mother-in-law of Saad Ali, Joseph Murray, Janet, Margaret, Mairead and Fionnuala Conlon, devoted sister of Ita O'Rielly (Carlingford) and sister-in-law of Margaret McEneaney (New York) and Mary Conlon (Cullyhanna). Sadly missed by her 12 grandchildren Elaine Clinton (Ardee) Kieran and Paul Murray (Crossmaglen), Aiman and Shireen Ali (Armagh), Emma and Tara Conlon (Clonmore), Katie, Sarah and Grace Conlon (Dromintee), Fergal and Niamh Conlon (Cullyhanna) and great -grandchildren Ryan, Esme and Oscar. Also sister of the late Hugh, Brian, Seamus and John McEneaney, Rose Toal, Mary Flanagan, Margie Hanley and ClareClamp RIP.

Lizzie's remains will repose at her daughter's residence, 37 Blayney Road, Crossmaglen where her family will welcome those who wish to pay their respects at this sad time, with the public health guidelines being adhered to. Friday morning private to family. Her remains will leave 37 Blayney Road, Crossmaglen via Ballinarea to St. Patrick’s Church, Cullyhanna, for Funeral Mass at 11 30am on Friday, 3rd December 2021, and burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Majella McCormack

Abergele, North Wales and formerly of John F. Kennedy Park, Bessbrook, Newry, Co. Armagh

Died peacefully at home in Wales on 26th November surrounded by her loving husband Seán and dear sons Shane and Steven. Also sadly missed by her sister Nicola, mother-in-law Eileen, brother-in-law James, sisters-in-law Mary, Helena, Teresa & Bernadette, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives and friends.

Returning to Ireland on Friday, 3rd December. Reposing at the residence of sister-in-law Teresa Fitzsimons, Kednaminsha, Inniskeen, A91 XR62 from 8pm. Removal on Saturday morning to the Church of Mary Mother of Mercy, Inniskeen, arriving for 11am Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in St. Mary's Cemetery, Inniskeen.

Margaret (Peg) Murray [née Murtagh]

Shancoduff, Inniskeen

Peacefully at home. Sadly missed and remembered with love by daughters Noreen, Angela and Margaret, sons Peter and Aidan, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law Yvonne and Shelly and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deeply regretted by brother Jim, sister Briege and husband Frank, sisters-in-law Kathy and Betty, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband James, sons Gerard, Kenneth and James and brother Joe, Gene, Denis and Sean.

Margretta (Gretta) Isabella Wright

Mullapike, Emyvale, Co. Monaghan.

Died Monday, 29th November 2021, peacefully, at Drumbear Lodge Nursing Home, Monaghan, in the presence of her family. Predeceased by her husband Robert and her sister Dorothy. Loving Mother of David and Sharon, daughter in law Shirley, son in law Mervyn, grandsons Philip, Gareth, Simon and Mark.

Her brother Sam (Smithboro), sisters Helen (Australia) and Hazel (England), nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Service on Thursday 2nd December 2021 at 1.30pm in Glennan Presbyterian Church, Glaslough and Burial afterwards in Ballyalbany Presbyterian Church Graveyard. Family flowers only please.
