Gardaí issue crime prevention advice

Winter sees an increase in break-ins.

Local Gardaí have issued crime prevention advice to local householders as we head into the new year.

Officers say the winter months lead to an increase in domestic burglaries as criminals take advantage of dark evenings.

Between 5pm and 10pm have been described as “the most vulnerable times” for householders and Gardaí are urging people to take measures to prevent break ins.

They’ve advised that people should make sure they have “good quality locks” and “good lighting”.

If leaving the house for a period of time, Gardaí say a timer clock should be used to make it appear as if someone is at home.

They also urge people not to store large amounts of cash in their homes.
