Over 850 Covid tests in Cavan over Christmas

The Omicron variant has led to increasing case numbers across Ireland.

851 people were tested for Covid locally over the Christmas period.

The figures from the HSE relate to the testing centre in Castle Saunderson between Christmas Eve and December 27. The centre remained open on Christmas Day.

72 people did not attend for their scheduled appointment at Castle Saunderson.

Meanwhile, 988 tests were carried out at the Monaghan test centre at Cloghan.

Another 68 people did not attend for their scheduled appointment there.

Figures were also released for the number of booster vaccines administered locally.

Cavan’s Vaccination Centre, based at the Hotel Kilmore, saw 14,439 boosters given up to Christmas Day. Of these, 6,434 were walk-ins.

13,544 in Cavan did not turn up for their appointment at the Cavan vaccination centre. However, these figures do not include booster doses administered in local pharmacies or GP surgeries.

In Monaghan, 5,594 boosters were given at the vaccine centre in the Glencarn Hotel in Castleblayney.

3,897 people did not attend for their appointment there, with 5,516 appointments cancelled. Again, these figures do not include doses given in pharmacies and GP surgeries.
