Fire service deal with downed powerlines near Gowna

ESB Networks are assisting Fire Brigade in clearing downed lines

Cavan Town Brigade are currently dealing with a tree down and fallen powerlines on the road outside Gowna Church.

ESB Network crews are also offering assistance with the clear up of damage caused by strong winds from Storm Franklin.

Ireland is facing its third storm warning in a week after Dudley and Eunice battered the country.

Met Eireann has warned of the risk of more fallen trees and possible power cuts with gusts in excess of 110km affecting some parts of the country.

A Status Yellow wind warning is in effect until 9am tomorrow, Monday.

On Friday night Ballyjamesduff brigade were called to deal with incident at Kilbride on the R194 where telecom poles and cables had fallen on the road following a collision.

The council has warned: "Storm Franklin will cause very strong winds with severe and damaging gusts. After a week of strong winds, trees may be weakened and at increased risk of falling, so road users should be extra vigilant."

Heavy downpours over much of today meanwhile has caused major flooding in other areas.

Killeshandra Fire Service members were called to assist after part of the Cavan Road at Canon's Hill was submerged for a period.
