Local vigils in memory of Sligo murder victims

There's been widespread shock at this week's events.

Vigils are being held in Cavan and Carrickmacross in memory of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee who were murdered in Sligo this week.

There's been widespread shock following their tragic deaths, with a man appearing in Court in Sligo yesterday.

22 year old Yousef Palani of Markievicz Heights in Sligo was charged with two counts of murder and one of section 4 assault on another man.

Gardaí had said they were investigating a possible homophobic aspect to the incidents.

Vigils are planned across the country this weekend in memory of the men.

Organisers of the Cavan vigil say their event is being held in memory of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee and all victims of homophobic and transphobic violence. It will take place in the Market Square this evening (Friday) at 6pm.

Another event, in Carrickmacross, is also being held. It's taking place at the Lace Gallery in the town this evening at 6pm.
