Gardaí hope to make it a birthday to remember for Leon

He's turning six later this month.

Local Gardaí are hoping to make it a special birthday for an honorary Garda member later this month.

Honorary Garda Leon Briody turns six on May 23 but he'll be in hospital for a bone marrow transplant.

Leo was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2020 and must undergo the transplant procedure. He and his family are to go into isolation in the coming days ahead of admission to the children's hospital in Crumlin.

Gardaí in Cavan hope to gather birthday cards for Leon in the meantime.

"We’d like to let Leon and his family know that we are all thinking of them. If anyone would like to send H/Garda Leon a birthday card, we will arrange delivery of them all together to Crumlin on the 23rd", they said on the local Garda Facebook page.

Cards can be posted to or left into Cavan Garda Station for the attention of Leon’s Garda Buddy, Garda Christine Gallagher.
