Cavan Open Week tennis finals to take place

Singles, doubles and mixed matches have been played, with Finals Day occurring tomorrow, Saturday, May 28.

The Cavan Senior Open tennis competition has been running all this week, with Finals Day set to take place at the weekend.

It is the first time the event has taken place since before the pandemic.

Tennis matches have been taking place all this week, beginning May 22, with players traveling from across the midlands and Border region to play.

Singles, doubles and mixed matches have been played, with Finals Day occurring tomorrow, Saturday, May 28.

The event is in part showcasing a major investment at the club which took place in recent years, with significant refurbishment of three courts and further plans to upgrade others in the future.

Club Secretary, Clare Lynch told the Celt that the three new courts were “self funded” with work carried out by McCabes and plenty of help from their near 400 members.

The future investment is being supported with an allocation of funding through the Sports Capital Grant.

“We have two back courts we're going to redevelop. We're also going to put in new LED lighting on our five tennis courts, and we also have two fantastic padel courts up the back and we're going to get new lighting on them. So we have really fantastic facilities at the club.”
