Contracts signed for Ramor marina 20 berth extension

Members of Ramor Watersports Club were in buoyant mood last Wednesday as contracts were signed to extend their marina to provide 20 new berths.

The major development will see the number of berths available jump to 52 at a cost of €700,000.

The boat moorings at the marina are currently full and the work, due to commence in January, was deemed necessary to meet ever increasing demand at the local beauty spot.

Commodore of Ramor Watersports Club John Wilson hailed the news as “a significant milestone” for its development.

“This is another significant milestone in the development of our club, which goes from strength to strength due to the commitment of the volunteers from within the club community, currently 87 members, our sponsors and funders.

“Without the support of Minister Humphreys, our local representatives, Cavan Leader and Cavan County Council we would not be at the stage of development we currently are at.

“I want to thank most sincerely all who have supported Ramor Watersports Club Council, especially the Brady family, our main sponsor here at the Lakeside Manor Hotel.”

The extension will be funded by a Cavan Leader grant of €200,000 and a fundraising campaign by the club of €150,000.

The club’s marina facilities were initially installed back in 2013 with support of €200,000 under a former Leader programme.

The contract was signed on Wednesday last by Vincent Carey of Inland & Coastal Marina Systems (ICMS), John Wilson Commodore Ramor Watersports Club and Christy Hanlon, club secretary. The contracts event saw Minister Heather Humphreys return to the marina, just a matter of months after her first visit in June to launch a new accessible boat ‘The Lady Amanda’.

“I commend the club for the work you have put in to raising close to €150,000 of your own funds to support this unique initiative,” said Minister Humphreys. “I want to thank the Cavan Local Community Development Committee and their implementing partner, Breffni Integrated, for their support for this project.”

Brendan Jennings, Director of Services with Cavan County Council commended all involved at Ramor Watersports Club.

“This development on the shores of Lough Ramor is an example of the great work being done by sporting and community groups across County Cavan,” said Mr Jennings, who is also chairman of Cavan LAG.

“This site has been developed incrementally over the last 10 years and Cavan County Council and the Cavan Local Community Development Committee are delighted to be able to support this project through the Leader programme. Projects of this nature don’t happen without the many local volunteers and I applaud all involved at Ramor Watersports Club.”
