New warning of delays at hospital as pressure grows

For the second time in three days, management at Cavan General Hospital has appealed for people to only attend its emergency department if absolutely necessary.

The busy facility has entered "escalation" due to the high number of people presenting for treatment.

In a message issued to local GPs this morning, the hospital said it is "currently experiencing high levels of attendances and admissions".

"All patients should be advised of delays and limited bed capacity."

It has urged people to seek alternatives to attending the ED, if possible.

It follows a similar message issued by management on Monday.
