Cavan Superintendent promoted

Local Garda Superintendent Padraic Jones is to leave Cavan.

Appointed to oversee the Cavan Division in late 2020, he was recently approved for promotion to Chief Superintendent.

The news was confirmed by Cavan-Monaghan Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern at the most recent Cavan Joint Policing Committee meeting.

“We will miss him greatly”, he said, “but we wish him luck in his new ventures”.

Originally from Dromard, Co Longford, Superintendent Jones previously served as Sergeant in Bailieborough. He also worked in Roscommon and Garda Headquarters, before moving to oversee the Cavan Division.

He replaced Jimmy Coen, who retired from the post in December 2020 after 40 years in An Garda Síochána.
