Windy with heavy and thundery rain this afternoon

Weather update from Met Éireann

A calm, and mostly dry start this morning with hazy sunshine. Cloud will build from the south through the day, bringing a spell of heavy and thundery rain during the afternoon, with hail and localised flooding possible. Becoming windy with the rain as southeast winds increase fresh to strong and gusty, reaching near gale force at times near exposed coasts and on high ground. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.

A Status Yellow Rain Warning will come into effect at 1pm today for Munster, Connacht and Donegal with Met Éireann saying heavy rain may cause disruption.

It will remain in place until 10pm tonight.

A Status Yellow Wind warning will also take effect at 5pm this evening for Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo with gusts of up to 110km/h with the strongest winds near coasts and exposed areas.

That warning will remain in place until noon on Monday.

Very windy tonight with strong southwest winds, and strong gusts at times along Atlantic coasts. Outbreaks of heavy rain will clear northwards overnight, with clear spells following. Showers will continue in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Continuing very windy into tomorrow with fresh to strong westerly winds persisting. Most places will be dry and sunny, with showers persisting further the north. Winds will ease light in the afternoon, with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

A cold, dry and mostly clear night. Mainly light southeast winds. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, milder in the south.

Tuesday will see a good deal of dry weather with sunny spells. Turning cloudier through the day with rain developing in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Tuesday night: A breezy night with rain, potentially heavy, developing in the south. Largely dry and clear over the northern half of the country. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds.

Unsettled conditions returning from midweek onwards.

Wednesday is promised a wet day for many areas with persistent and at times heavy falls of rain, especially in the south. Possibly staying dry in the north with some sunny spells. Another breezy day with fresh easterly winds. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.

Continuing wet into Wednesday night as rain moves northwards from the southeast, with clear spells following. Mild with lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees, remaining breezy with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

A mostly dry start to Thursday with sunny spells. Rain will return in the south later in the day. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with fresh southeasterly winds.
