Two charged in relation to €50K cannabis seizure

Two people have been charged in relation to the seizure of approximately €50,000 of cannabis in County Longford late last week.

A man and woman, both in their 30s, who were arrested in connection with the seizure, have both been charged and bailed to appear before Longford District Court tomorrow (Tuesday), November1, at 10:30am.

Drugs were seized following a search of a vehicle in the Newtownforbes area last Thursday, October 27.

The occupants of the car, a man and woman, were both arrested and detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultiva-tion, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
