Cooking up a storm for Cuan

Neven Maguire is set to cook up a storm in the Hotel Kilmore to raise much needed money for Cuan Cancer Support.

The celebrity chef will demonstrate how to create his signature dishes on the night of Tuesday, November 15.

Attendees will get to learn his tricks of the trade while enjoying a fantastic night of food, drinks and a raffle of fantastic prizes including three €100 Dunnes Stores vouchers, a round of golf for four at the Slieve Russell Hotel and Golf Club, beautiful gifts from Elegant Gems and much more. All of the prizes have been kindly donated by local businesses.

Service co-ordinator of Cuan Cancer Support, Maria Brady, believes the night will be a fantastic success and will not only give the charity organisation the opportunity to raise much needed funds, but also raise awareness for the work they do.

“The money we raise will be hugely important. With Covid we weren’t able to do a lot of fundraising over the past couple of years so this is one of our bigger fundraisers that our fundraising committee have organised.

“We are getting much busier, we had our open day a couple of weeks ago and we’ve gotten a huge amount of new service users since then. In order for us to be able to keep our waiting list times down, we may need to expand on the amount of hours our therapists are working. It’ll be great to get a bit of extra money to know we can do that if necessary.”

CUAN Cavan provides a confidential support service that responds to the needs of those affected by cancer. They offer a range of services including counselling, reflexology, reiki and much more for not only cancer patients but also their families and friends who have been affected by the disease. “The money will go towards providing all of the services we currently provide,” continues the service coordinator. “We’ve expanded to opening up a little bit in the evenings now so the cost of our therapies have increased, so it’ll help towards that and then it will go towards the running costs of the centre.

“We can get a lot of grants and stuff for a specific purpose burt it’s very rare that we can get some funding for the actual day-to-day running costs of the centre like the ESB and the heating, those kinds of costs, so it'll go straight back into the centre to provide all of the services that we currently provide, and then our children services are expanding as well.”

The members of Cuan Cancer Support are looking forward to the event and wish to thank everyone involved in organising it, in particular the main sponsors Dunnes Stores for which Neven is an ambassador.

“Thank you to the fundraising committee who have worked really hard to organise this demonstration and a thank you to Neven Maguire and his team for supporting us in this and we hope to see a lot of people on the night.”

Tickets for the event cost €25 per person and are available for purchase from local businesses: Purple Orange, Cavan Gifts and Hotel Kilmore, as well as in the Cuan facility itself. Doors open at 6:30pm.
