Gargan's monumental photo success

A Bailieborough has achieved monumental success in a global photography competition.

Oliver Gargan claimed a second and third place in the Wiki Loves Monuments Annual Photography competition, the world's biggest photography competition in terms of entries.

His subjects include the internationally renowned Kylemore Abbey in County Galway, and also, an image of a building much closer to home.

Judges awarded Oliver second place with his photo of St Mary's Church in Crossreagh (Cross), County Cavan. His photo of Kylemore Abbey came third.

The Bailieborough man also had a photo of the mausoleum on the grounds of Kylemore Abbey, and another of the Yellow Steeple in Trim highly commended.

Finally, he won a special award for best upload, in the Connaught region, with a photo of Saint Mary’s church in Galway.

Oliver is thrilled to continue his great run of success in the competition which is regarded as the world's biggest photography competition in terms of entries.

Since he first entered the competition in 2016 he has had an image selected in the top 10 each year. Notably he achieved first place in 2019 with his Spire of Lloyd on the outskirts of Kells. Meanwhile a photo of the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin City saw him claim second place in 2020.

Oiver's photos will now represent the Republic of Ireland in the international rounds.
