It is with regret that we note the following deaths from Counties Cavan and Monaghan over the past 24 hours, as reported on RIP.ie

Terence Clarke

Granafarna, Killinkere, Cavan / Bailieborough, Cavan

Terence Clarke, Granafarna, Killinkere, Bailieborough, Co Cavan. Died on 8th January 2023, peacefully, in the loving care of the staff in Virginia Health Centre, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his loving wife Bridget. Loving father to Michael and Patricia. Greatly missed by his son Michael and daughter in law Cleona, all his extended family and wide circle of friends and neighbours.

May he rest in peace.

Reposing at Clarke's Funeral Home, Bailieborough, on Tuesday, 10th January, from 5pm - 7pm. Funeral to leave Clarke's Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at 10:30am to arrive at St. Mary's Church, Clanaphilip, for funeral Mass at 11am (via his residence). Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Eugene McDermott

Pullamore Far, Cavan

The death has occurred of Eugene McDermott, Pullamore Far, Cavan, Saturday, January 7th 2023, in the loving care of his family, after a long illness bravely borne. Predeceased by his loving wife Miriam, brother Francie, sister Margaret and his parents Peggy and Francie. Eugene will be sadly missed by his daughters Jackie (Knight), Margarette Somerville (Brisbane), Sharon (Fay), Patricia (Smith) and Claire Roe (Brisbane), sons in law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-granddaughter, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and all his extended family and friends.

Reposing at the McMahon Funeral Home, Farnham Road, Cavan, H12 C821, on Monday evening from 5pm, concluding with prayers at 7pm. The family request no handshaking in the funeral home or in the church.

The funeral cortege will leave the residence of his daughter Jackie on Tuesday morning, for Funeral Mass in St. Brigid’s Church, Killygarry, at 12 noon. Burial will take place afterwards in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.

Josephine (Josie) Murray

Derrykenny, Newtownbutler, Fermanagh / Blacklion, Cavan

Died Sunday 8th January 2023 peacefully in North West Hospice, Sligo. Loving sister of Johnny and Bridget. Predeceased by her brothers Andrew, Jim and her sister Kathleen (R.I.P).

Josephine will repose at Swift and McCaffrey Funeral Home, Brookeborough Road, Lisnaskea BT92 OLB, tomorrow evening (Monday) from 5pm until 8pm. Removal from funeral home on Tuesday morning at 11.00 am, to arrive at The Church of Immaculate Conception, Newtownbutler, for 11.30 am Funeral Mass, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Josephine will be sadly missed by her sister, brother, nieces, nephews and the entire family circle.

Gavin Smith

Aghnadaragan, Drung, Cavan

The death has occurred of Gavin Smith, Aghnadaragan, Drung, Co. Cavan, who passed away peacefully in St Vincent’s Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin on Saturday 7th January 2023, in the loving care and presence of his family and his medical team.

Will be very sadly missed by his heartbroken parents Tom and Maura, his sister Karen, brother in law Eoin, niece Paige, nephews Zac and Eli, his partner Patricia, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours, colleagues and a wide circle of friends.

May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Dublin / Clones, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Ann Gibbons (of Dublin and formerly of Clones, Co. Monaghan) on the 5th January 2023, surrounded by her loving family and under the excellent care of all the staff on Cedar Ward in St. Vincent's Private Hospital.

Beloved wife of Shaymus and adoring mother of Ben and Grace. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, her sisters Kathy and Maria, her brother Francis, her brothers in-law, sister in-law and mother in-law Greta and all her relatives and friends.

Ann never failed to make a client into a friend through her practice Gibbons Associates Solicitors and she will be greatly missed by all those to whom she made a great difference to throughout her professional life.

The Funeral service will be at 2.30pm on Wednesday, 11 January, at Mount Jerome Crematorium.

The death has occurred of Margaret Gibson, Lakeview, Castleblayney, formerly 30 Lochmor Avenue, Ballybay, Co. Monaghan and Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland. Sunday 8th January 2023 suddenly at home.

Predeceased by her mother, Bridie, father, Jimmy and brother Philip. Deeply regretted and lovingly missed by her son James, her partner Paul Brant, James’s partner Nicole, brothers and sisters John, George, Mary, Gerard, Eileen and Paul, nieces, nephews, extended family and wide circle of friends.

Reposing at her family home in 30 Lochmor Avenue, Ballybay on Monday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm and again on Tuesday from 12 pm to 8 pm with removal on Wednesday morning at 10:15 am, arriving to St. Michael’s Church Annyalla for requiem mass at 11 am with burial afterward in the adjoining cemetery. House private to family on Wednesday morning please.

The death has occurred of Rosemary Smith (née McCourt), Clonseady, Magheracloone, Carrickmacross, Co. Monghan, peacefully, in the tender loving care of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Saturday, 7th January 2023. Predeceased by her son Thomas. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her husband Eugene, sons Kevin and Eugene, grandchildren Erin, Oisín, Kiera and Chloe, brothers John and Patsy, sister Theresa, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
