Lidl gets green light to knock and rebuild

Plans will see redevelopment and reconfiguration of the existing site.

Lidl has been granted planning permission plans to knock its Cavan town supermarket and replace it with an entirely new store.

The green light was given despite concerns from neighbours over how the development might affect localised property prices, as well as the impact the new store would have on those living directly opposite.

The German discount retailer applied for planning permission for the major project, which will increase its overall floorspace, back in August last year.

Lidl now aims to demolish the outlet, which totals 1,596 sqm and replace it with a new, larger store, totalling 2,560 sqm.

Also included in the plans is the redevelopment and reconfiguration of the existing site layout, the provision of 120 car parking spaces, and hard and soft landscaping.

The existing vehicular access point will be retained but the HGV delivery bay are set to be relocated.
