Speeding drivers targeted on Virginia to Bally'duff Road

A number of motorists are facing fines after gardaí targeted speeders on the Virginia to Ballyjamesduff Road yesterday.

Responding to concerns raised by local representatives, Cavan Roads Policing Unit conducted speed checks on the busy road as part of an all day operation into speed detection.

A number of Fixed Payment Notices were issued for excess speed in the 80kmph limit.

A Garda spokesperson detailed on their social media page how one driver was seemingly doing more than speeding: "One of these motorists also had no insurance on their car and then failed a roadside drugs test. The driver was arrested and blood samples taken at Bailieboro Garda Station.

"The car was detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act for no insurance and taken off the road. Court date to follow for this driver."
