Annual Christmas Gala Dinner Dancer in aid of St Christopher’s

The annual Christmas Fundraising Gala in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan, will take place at the Hotel Kilmore on Saturday evening, December 2.

Grab your dancing shoes and head on down to the Cavan for the 21st annual Christmas Gala Dinner Dance.

The annual Christmas Fundraising Gala in aid of St Christopher’s Hospice, Cavan, will take place at the Hotel Kilmore on Saturday evening, December 2.

The festive day will begin with a delicious meal prepared by The Hotel Kilmore's top chefs, followed by a night of dancing with music offered by Eamonn Gaffney.

The event is organised each year by Carmel Dalton with the help of her daughters Michelle and Pamela.

Tickets for the full day event are on sale from Multisound Cavan and the Hotel Kilmore priced at €50 each.

Those who wish to attend the dance in the evening can pay €10 at the door.

“We would love people to come along and if they can’t make the dinner dance, they can actually come to the dance, which starts at 10:30pm with Eamonn Jackson,” says Carmel.

All funds raised will be donated to St Christopher's Hospice located just outside Cavan Town.

Carmel explains she originally set up the charity event because she wanted to help people less fortunate than her.

“I just love doing it. It can be quite hard work for a few months getting everything set up and trying to get people to commit themselves,” she says, explaining the endless list of jobs that need to be done to ensure its success.

“It just gives me a great feeling that I’m doing something for those people who are less fortunate.”

Over the two decades of events, Carmel believes the event has raised around €150,000.

“Of course I’d love to raise more. I’ve been organising this myself, and it’s hard work when you pay for everything and pay for music and all that. I’m quite proud of myself and my daughters Michelle and Pamela.”

Works will soon begin on St Christopher’s Hospice on the outskirts of Cavan Town, which received €7.5 million for a state-of-the-art extension.

The planned extension includes a part single-storey, part two-storey extension to the side and rear of the existing hospice building.

This will provide for 13 additional bedrooms and ancillary accommodation, bringing the total number of rooms available to 16, together with an enclosed courtyard with landscaping and alterations to existing accommodation and internal layouts plans and elevations.

The extension will also provide for an external covered shelter and walkway, an extension to the entrance lobby to the front of the current building, and new car parking facilities.
