Roundup: Monaghan SFC semi-final pairings confirmed

The semi-final pairings for the Monaghan Senior Football Championship semi-finals have been confirmed.

Following the group stages, Scotstown and Clontibret qualified directly for the last four, having topped their group.

This set up quarter-final clashes between Inniskeen and Castleblayney, and Truagh and Carrickmacrosss.

In this afternoon's first quarter-final, Inniskeen clinched a 2-12 to 0-12 victory over Castleblayney in Ballybay.

Wing-back Colm Meegan got the all important score for Inniskeen with a goal midway through the second-half, before Ciaran McNulty's punched finish deep into injury time was the final nail in the coffin for Blayney.

The Grattans will play Scotstown next weekend, in a repeat of last season's county final.

In the other-quarter-final, Clontibret was the venue as Truagh held on in the second-half to beat a Carrick team who will regret several missed chances throughout the game.

Once again it was Seán O'Connell who was the key man for Gaels- his palmed finish from a Gary Mohan pass in the first half proving crucial.

Truagh meet Clontibret in the semi-final, a repeat of a brilliant Round 5 clash a week ago, which saw the O'Neills snatch victory (and top the group) with almost the last kick of the game.

Both semi-finals will be played in St. Tiernach's Park, Clones next Sunday, October 4.
