Temperatures to hit 22 degrees by weekend

The weather has been a source of great disappointment for many so far this year and the topic of many conversations.

But readers will be delighted to learn that temperatures will be heating up heading into the weekend. It comes after record rainfall in the month of March, with rain recorded 29 out of 31 days at Ballyhaise for the month.

Met Éireann is reporting mainly sunny weather today (Wednesday) and right up to and including Saturday, with highest temperatures from 19 to 22 degrees Celsius.

Weather forecasters say tomorrow (Thursday) will be mainly dry again with sunny spells. The mercury could hit 20 degrees amid light southerly breezes.

Siobhan Ryan, meteorologist with Met Éireann, told the Celt that we can expect the weather to be “fully dry up until and including the next few days”.

She said we can expect “nice weather” for Saturday with above average temperatures.

However, she warns: “Saturday might be the last day of the reliably dry weather in the short term.”

Ms Ryan said there is low pressure in situ between Ireland and Greenland meaning a return to cooler temperatures. That “may well feed in some rain and drizzle” on Sunday, which is expected to be cloudy with the chance of a few thunderstorms.

It'll turn cooler for the early days of next week, with highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh northwest winds, and it'll become more unsettled with some rain or showers at times.
